Colton is a Monday - Thursday student contact day with licensed staff working approximately 17 Fridays per year.
Rate of Pay: TBD for the 2026-2027 school year. Currently $114,383 - $140,552 DOE

JOB SUMMARY
The High School Principal is an instructional leader for equity, responsible for the following: establishing an instructional vision and a focused plan for improving student achievement; monitoring and supervising instruction; supporting teachers in improving their instructional practice; creating a community of continuous learning for all staff and students; and fostering a culture of high expectations for all students. In addition, the principal is charged with building strong partnerships with families and the community, creating a safe, supportive school climate, and effectively managing operational, technical and staff issues to promote instructional progress.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
- Understand and communicate Oregon’s academic standards and implement standards-based curriculum.
- Assist teachers in developing and maintaining appropriate and effective teaching methods.
- Analyze and understand data and effectively use it to form actions within school.
- Collaborate with the administrative leadership team districtwide, initiate a strong sense of team and serve on committees as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources Director in recruiting highly qualified job applicants and make recommendations for hire.
- Develop and foster community connections that will enhance the educational experience of all students.
- Plan and implement appropriate professional development as it relates to the district and school’s continuous improvement plans (CIP).
- Acts as the district administrator over secondary athletics.
- Use effective and diverse means of communication to reach out to various shareholder groups within the community through newsletters, media, the website, forums, etc.
- Effectively manage conflict within the school building.
- Schedule and organize student activities and state testing.
- Evaluate classified and licensed employees according to best practices and district policy.
- Report issues to authorities as necessary, child abuse, suspicious activity etc.
- Clearly communicate the district’s vision, purpose, and core beliefs to the school community and maintain a positive school climate while maintaining staff accountability.
- Participate in school, district, region, and state meetings as appropriate.
- Understand Oregon and federal education laws and be able to effectively communicate related accountability systems.
- Effectively manage building level budget, operations, and staff.
- Facilitate and lead the implementation of the school’s continuous improvement plan.
- Identify students that have special needs and understand student referral systems.
- Advocate for children and actively embrace community involvement.
- Appreciate and respect diversity and difference in both teaching and learning.
- Inspire innovation among the school community.
- Model a growth mindset and demonstrate an understanding of inclusive learning environments.
- Maintain appropriate certifications and training hours as required.

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Attends educational support meetings, including individualized education plan (IEP) meetings, and school board meetings.
- Substitute teach as necessary.
- Resolves grievances and other employee relations issues.
- Disciplines employees appropriately per district policy and negotiated agreements.
- Supervise before and after school events/activities to include evening events/activities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment. The middle school principal has a significant responsibility in supervising staff and students and assisting in maintaining a safe, inclusive learning environment for all students.

- Education and/or Experience: A Masters in Education, completion of a school administrator program, and at least 5 years of teaching experience. School Administration and/or Leadership experience preferred with experience in K-8 setting. Preferred knowledge and experience using Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching Standards.
- Interpersonal Skills: Effective interpersonal skills in managing and interacting with diverse groups of shareholders. Demonstrated ability to manage conflict through quality decision-making and effective problem-solving.
- Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, IEPs, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, emails, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, staff, and parents
- Mathematical Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in the use of data to assess student progress and inform instructional practice. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, discounts, interest, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to respond to situations in a proactive manner. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Computer Skills: Demonstrated proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software. Must be able to use District IT systems to perform routine tasks, such as performance management assessments, accessing financial reports and managing school staffing and budget information.
- Other Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated knowledge of high-leverage, research-based instructional strategies and models for improving instructional practices. Demonstrated knowledge of child growth and development at each level of instruction and of the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of adolescent students. Possesses knowledge of effective behavior management methods. Ability to meet timelines and exercise good judgment while working in a dynamic environment.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registration: Must hold an administrator license through Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) or be eligible for licensure in Oregon. Must have a Driver’s License and a vehicle to commute between buildings. Current CPR/First Aid highly preferred.

Occasionally perform work beyond a standard 40-hour work week when work-load requires.
The work environment combines the standard office setting with standard office equipment (including fax, copier, phone, computer, 10-key, etc.) with a standard school setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, depending on the student population and activities. The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.
